Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Are you a data science leader who would enjoy solving some of business’ toughest challenges by illuminating phenomena and opportunity held within one of the world’s largest data sets? As a Sr Manager, Data Science at Walmart, the mammoth scale and volume of our global data is virtually limitless. You will create insights that influence how we make decisions that have impact at an unprecedented scale.  

 

You will have the opportunity to do your best work while unlocking vast business opportunity by leading data scientists, machine learning engineers, and software engineers building goal-oriented AI-enabled business solutions. Each day, you will be presented with a variety of new challenges and interesting projects that tap your interests and strengths. This isn’t analyst work; you’ll be leveraging advanced data science methods, including AI and machine learning in an incredibly dynamic and engaging environment.   Your teams will have a focus on NLP, machine learning, and time series modeling for real world, large scale intelligent systems.

 

You’ll make an impact by:   

  • Managing a mid-sized team of brilliant data scientists, machine learning engineers, and software engineers specializing in NLP & NLU, semantic search, conversational AI, and multiple forms of machine learning methods.
  • Research and engineer novel data-driven capabilities to power next level business solutions, selecting the best fit for structured & unstructured, complex data, and developing custom models that drive value for our customers and unlock competitive advantage for our organization 
  • Work across functions to define problems appropriately, with a machine learning mindset, strategically design data collection, with deployment at scale
  • Work closely with business and product stakeholders to define strategy, vision, and roadmap for top initiatives
  • Lead, mentor and grow team members while working in an agile environment Developing processes and tools that monitor, analyze and continuously improve model performance and data accuracy 


You’ll sweep us off our feet if…  

  • You’re an inquisitive, out-of-the box thinker who’s continually on the lookout for opportunities to improve and innovate data science solutions 
  • You have 2+ years of experience mentoring junior data scientists or machine learning teams
  • You have strong hands-on skills in sourcing, cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing large volumes of data using distributed computing platform
  • You have the courage to fail fast

  • You connect the how and why, using your knowledge of data science theories and methodologies to derive the best approach that is fit-for-purpose 
  • You have a proven ability with statistical methods and advanced modelling techniques (e.g., SVM, Random Forest, Bayesian inference, graph models, NLP, Computer Vision, neural networks, etc.) 
  • You have a proven ability using natural language libraries and language models such as spaCy, Hugging Face, BERT, ELMo, etc
  • You have strong development experience with at least one programming language (Python or Java preferred)
  • You’re proficient using database technologies and distributed datastores You have experience with Spark, Kubernetes, Pytorch and TensorFlow etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in data science, preferably in Conversational AI
  • 1-2 years people management experience
