Job Description

The automotive industry is undergoing massive transformation – a digital transformation.  Software, connectivity and cloud-connected services are redefining the driving experience.  Here at Telenav, we’re proud and excited to be a part of this transformation.  We started with in-car navigation and location-based services over a decade ago and are now enabling leading automotive companies like GM, Ford, Toyota and Mercedes redefine the digital experiences for the connected car.

We are looking for a Conversation Designer to join our design team. As a Conversation Designer, you’ll leverage your understanding of human language and communication to build voice-forward user interfaces that allow people to control all aspects of the car dashboard from navigation to the infotainment system while at the same time keeping the driver safe on the road.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing the latest agile and lean ux processes, conceptualize and iterate high-quality end-to-end designs for speech and conversational user interfaces and content
  • Create detailed and comprehensive dialog diagrams and flows along with associated wireframes that are EASY to understand to the engineering and quality assurance teams
  • Develop UI patterns for voice, UI components, and processes that enable other team members to create their own voice enabled experiences
  • Engage with technical partners to understand the capabilities of enabling voice technologies and articulate experience requirements that may influence technical development
  • Evaluate usability and audio consistency of existing dialog flows and recommend design changes
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, feel comfortable dealing with multiple stakeholders, and be able to think strategically when reviewing design work and providing feedback and guidance

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Linguistics, or 3+ years of experience in designing speech-enabled interaction flows
  • A portfolio of work demonstrating expertise in voice and conversation design
  • An eye for detail and an understanding of each step of the conversation design process, including familiarity with NLP
  • Up to date on trends in conversational design, platforms and experiences.
  • Master’s in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Linguistics, or 6+ years of experience in designing speech-enabled interaction flows.
  • Expertise with speech recognition, text-to-speech (TTS), and NLU technology
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative methods for (user) research
  • Experience in persona designing/writing
  • Knowledgeable about linguistic norms of speech, writing, conversation and communication (e.g. Cooperative Principle, turn-taking, cognitive load, pragmatics, prosody)
  • Technical knowledge of speech and language technologies (e.g. ASR, NLU, TTS)
